Certainly not new this week, but always offering something new to marvel at, Gapminder “is a non-profit venture – a modern “museum” on the Internet – promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.”

On the website, users can choose from a large collection of data sets to explore, as well as download the data in an Excel sheet. Data topics range from annual HIV deaths, to  the percent of forest coverage in a given region. Gapminder shows some of the world’s most interesting, important trends. And Windows or Linux users can access Gapminder Desktop, software that lets you explore the world from your own computer.

For a special treat, check out Hans Rosling’s documentary The Joy of Stats.
