The NCAA tournament is a hectic time for sports journalists, butFiveThirtyEight created an interactive bracket that is a great example of letting data speak for itself. The graphic is also an interesting tool that can also be used in the future. The graphic provides both bracket and table views that allow the user see a forecast of the chances each team has for winning each round and the overall tournament. The likelihood of winning for each match-up is determined by power rankings, the NCAA’s S-curve, injuries, geography and pre-season rankings. With only three games left in the men’s tournament, the bracket has been simplified, but it’s still an impressive example of interactive data visualization.
