Data-Driven DJ made a song that corresponds to median household income of three boroughs the New York City Subway’s 2 Train goes through. “Two Trains: Sonification of Income Inequality on the NYC Subway,” shows how the subway is both chaotic and orderly, all through sounds, and the video uses two maps to show which parts of NYC the song is emulating. This is a great example of thinking outside of the box in order to explain income inequality. It won’t ever be a Top 10 hit, but this audio captures the complexity of income in NYC.
