Simulative presentations can implement simple game mechanics to emphasize a point and create a space that fosters a conversation. The Wall Street Journal’s feature In or Out, gives the reader one of the hardest jobs in sports: a U.S. Open line judge. As users assume several positions of varying difficulty across the court, they watch a series of full speed shots to decide whether the ball was in or out. Their responses are then measured against other users’ scores. 

Watching a video of a 100 miles-per-hour tennis ball zip across the court shows that it is incredibly difficult to make a spilt second decision. Allowing users to be a part of the game and then scoring their performance simulates the pressure that real line judges face. Immersive experiences like these represent great examples of how to engage your audience in fun, informative ways.
